A Trip down Pasig River

It's been a month already when two big typhoons hit the country. The whole country was awaken by this; opening everyone's eyes to the impact of our actions on the environment.

For the past weeks, the Grade 4 Galing Mo Kid! students have been learning about Heroism particularly on Being Heroes of the Environment. The ferry trip along Pasig River for the Grade 4 students gave the students and in depth understanding about the impacts of our actions on the environment. The trip was guided by Mr. Jimbo Mallari of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission who shared to the students how the river looked like decades ago and how important it was in the development of Metro Manila.

The trip was a perfect introduction to the next module on Being Heroes of the Environment, focusing on Water Conservation.

Thank you to Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission for hosting the trip.

Mentors Orientation and Workshop

Hands On Manila (HOM) did not only welcome the new batch of GMKids, but also welcomed the new batch of mentors. For two Saturdays, HOM held orientations and workshop for the mentors. The first orientation and workshop for the new Grade 4 mentors was held last July 11 at Pembo Elementary School.

A more detailed discussion about the program and the modules were tackled, and as well as their role as mentors and how they can become effective mentors.

Mr. Rey Belen facilitated the afternoon discussion giving an introduction about Understanding By Design (UBD) to which the module was patterned.

Our new batch of mentors. Thank you and welcome to HOS-GMK! :)

For the second Saturday, "old mentors" joined us last July 18 at Philippine Daily Inquirer where we had parallel discussions of the Grade 5 and Grade 6 modules. In the morning, Therese Panganiban, volunteer-consultant and mentor facilitated the discussion of the Grade 6 modules, and Willie Mercado volunteer-consultant who revised the Grade 5 modules handled the discussion of the Grade 5 modules.

For the afternoon session, Willie Mercado sampled one Structured Learning Exercise (SLE) with the mentors and another one for the mentors to facilitate.
